Help: Software Update Interrupted topic

I haven't used a non-rooted phone since Froyo, so I'm a bit stumped as to why an OTA update won't work when I'm pure stock and unrooted (obviously). I mean, OTAs are supposed to be just accept, download, and auto-install... pretty easy.
Every time I download the update, the download completes successfully. Every time I try to install, it brings me to a small ATT logo with "Upgrading" under it. Then it stays there for about a minute or two before saying "Upgrade Failed" and reboots back into the previous firmware version.

The only thing I did to my phone was use the ADB trick to disable some system apps from running at startup.

But, I even tried the update with everything unblocked again. Still no dice.

I am also not encrypted either.
I've been seeing a few other people getting this same error, but many of them are using encrypted phones.

Does anyone know what the heck is going on?

EDIT: Oh! After the first failure, I moved the date forward a day to get the download to happen again. Then I attempted the install again without fixing the date. Regardless, the second and third attempts all failed.
I don't know if this matters any.
