[Q] Developer unlock without Windows 8 or SDK? topic

Is there a way to developer unlock my Nokia Lumia 520 without needing the SDK? I have a windows XP computer, (with dual boot Ubuntu) and a Windows 8.1, but the windows 8.1 has no admin rights (and I cant get them, don't bother with answers about this). Is there a way to developer unlock my phone, either with the XP or without a computer? I honestly want this so bad I don't care if it is legit Microsoft approved or not. I tried the chinese jailbreak tool, but it wouldn't work because I don't have the drivers or something that come with the SDK, and the SDK isn't supported on windows XP.

Introduction
MultiROM is one-of-a-kind multi-boot mod for Motorola Moto G. It can boot any Android ROM as well as other systems like Ubuntu Touch, once they are ported to that device. Besides booting from device's internal memory, MultiROM can boot from USB drive connected to the device via OTG cable. The main part of MultiROM is a boot manager, which appears every time your device starts and lets you choose ROM to boot. You can see how it looks on the left image below and in gallery. ROMs are installed and managed via modified TWRP recovery. You can use standard ZIP files to install secondary Android ROMs and MultiROM even has its own installer system, which can be used to ship other Linux-based systems.

Features:
* Multiboot any number of Android ROMs
* Restore nandroid backup as secondary ROM
* Boot from USB drive attached via OTG cable

You can also watch a video which shows it in action.

Warning!
It _is_ dangerous. This whole thing is basically one giant hack - none of these systems are made with multibooting in mind. It is no longer messing with data partition or boot sector, but it is possible that something goes wrong and you will have to flash factory images again. Make backups. Always.

Installation
1.Manual installation
Firstly, there are videos on youtube. If you want, just search for "MultiROM installation" on youtube and watch those, big thanks to all who made them. There is also an awesome article on Linux Journal.

Note 1: Your device must not be encrypted (hint: if you don't know what it is, then it is not encrypted).

MultiROM has 3 parts you need to install:
  • MultiROM (multirom-YYYYMMDD-vXX-falcon.zip) - download the ZIP file from second post and flash it in recovery.

  • Modified recovery (TWRP_multirom_falcon_YYYYMMDD.img) - download the IMG file from second post and use fastboot or Flashify app to flash it.

  • Patched kernel - You can use either one of the stock ones in second post or third-party kernels which include the patch, you can see list in the second post. Download the ZIP file and flash it in recovery.

You current rom will not be erased by the installation.
Download links are in the second post.

Adding ROMs
1. Android
Go to recovery, select Advanced -> MultiROM -> Add ROM. Select the ROM's zip file and confirm. As for the space, clean installation of stock 4.2 after first boot (with dalvik cache generated and connected to google account) takes 676mb of space.
2. Ubuntu Touch - Not available yet on Moto G

Use the MultiROM Manager app to install Ubuntu Touch.

Ubuntu Touch is in development - MultiROM will have to be updated to keep up with future changes in Ubuntu, so there's a good chance this method stops working after a while and I'll have to fix it.

3. Firefox OS
Firefox OS is just another Android ROM from MultiROM's point of view, so grab the ZIP file from Firefox OS' thread and add it as if it were Android
4. SailfishOS - Not available on Moto G yet

  • Download CyanogenMod and SailfishOS ZIP as described on Sailfish wiki page. You need alpha2 (20140810) or newer!

  • Put both CM and SailfishZIP on your device.

  • Reboot into recovery

  • Advanced -> MultiROM -> Add ROM

  • Choose "SailfishOS" as ROM type. Installation to USB drive is not supported, so leave install location as is. Click Next.

  • Choose first CyanogenMod ZIP and then SailfishOS ZIP. Click install.

Head to SailfishOS thread for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/goog...alpha-t2841266

Using USB drive
During installation, recovery lets you select install location. Plug in the USB drive, wait a while and press "refresh" so that it shows partitions on the USB drive. You just select the location (extX, NTFS and FAT32 partitions are supported) and proceed with the installation.
If you wanna use other than default FAT32 partition, just format it in PC. If you don't know how/don't know where to find out how, you probably should not try installing MultiROM.
If you are installing to NTFS or FAT32 partition, recovery asks you to set image size for all the partitions - this cannot be easilly changed afterward, so choose carefully. FAT32 is limited to maximum of 4095MB per image - it is limitation of the filesystem, I can do nothing about that.
Installation to USB drives takes a bit longer, because the flash drive is (usually) slower and it needs to create the images, so installation of Ubuntu to 4Gb image on my pretty fast USB drive takes about 20 minutes.
Enumerating USB drive can take a while in MultiROM menu, so when you press the "USB" button in MultiROM, wait a while (max. 30-45s) until it searches the USB drive. It does it by itself, no need to press something, just wait.

Updating/changing ROMs
1. Primary ROM (Internal)
  • Flash ROM's ZIP file as usual, do factory reset if needed (it won't erase secondary ROMs)

  • Go to Advanced -> MultiROM in recovery and do Inject curr. boot sector.

2. Secondary Android ROMs
If you want to change the ROM, delete it and add new one. To update ROM, follow these steps:
  • Go to Advanced -> MultiROM -> List ROMs and select the ROM you want to update.

  • Select "Flash ZIP" and flash ROM's ZIP file.

Last week I received the 3000mAh MPJ battery. The fit is quite snug, probably because of the paper around the battery but of course it does fit :p

It came 60% charged so immediately loaded it up fully as I wanted to see how this one would hold up :) Once full decided to do a battery test. Unfortunately that day I also had to use navigation (and that, as we know, uses quite a lot of juice) but even doing that the screen on time was around 4 hours and the battery lasted the whole day. In my experience running CM12 (which I do) uses a bit more than stock LG Roms so this will also depend on the system setup of course.

Charged it up again and set out to do a more proper test. Results below. The battery lasted for 3 days in which 3 hours of screen on time were used. Did quite a lot of texting using Whatsapp, some browsing, updating the installed apps, made some backups to Dropbox etc. This for me is a great result!

Of course as the original battery is also 3000mAh the expected runtime will not differ. But for a replacement battery this one holds up to it's advertised capacity very well (which isn't as logical as it might sound) so for me it is recommended :good:

=====================
* Fix graphics corruption with some custom kernels

Need Serious Help
I flashed captain throwbacks gpe 4.4.4 on my Sim unlocked Sprint htc one m8. Now my device doesn't read baseband, imei has no network and various other problems. I read that many folks have the same issues which was solved by flashing Taiwans radio.img. But when I flashing zip file from recovery, it fails and when I am trying to flash through fastboot it says remote not allowed. When I am trying to flash RUU my phone restarts in the process and Windows exits the flashing process saying it cant connect to device. I also tried flashing several other ROMs through recovery but all the ROMs were flashed but I still got Google as boot screen instead of htc and then device will not boot. My bootloader reads as

I am getting ready to root a friends phone maybe. He just wants to tether. I have searched and searched and he is on J2 4.4.2 from what I see there is NO root method is this true?

xda-developers

One of our forum friend asked for this, thus sharing with all who may want to go back to EMUI2.0 320dpi and also enjoy the mods by HRT_KangVIP.

HRT_KangVIP claims that the modded files involved r basically similar for both 503L and 501u, thus they r only releasing one cross-flashable version for both the patch and full rom.

Normal flashing procedures apply for either - your X1 needs to be already on a 4.2.2 EMUI2.0 rom before you proceed, if it is not, flashing official B008 prior for 503L and B020 for 501u is highly recommended if not mandatory.

Hello,

I bought Note 4 (Model: SM-N910F) in Germany, and now running android version
4.4.4, I want to upgrade to the official version 5.0.1 from website:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N910F/

Which version is recommended from the website?
Debating between both versions: Germany or Unknown, Which version is preferable?
And do need root to flash a new version?

I am interested in a clean system with no additives/applications (in English) with good battery time.
Thanks,
idan.

xda-developers

First you should make backup.
Browse to /system/framework-folder and delete file named framework-res.apk.
Then reboot, It takes long time, but worth to wait.
Now everything, calls, auto-brightness, sim detecting..., works perfect. :D

my htc one (M7) (GSM) got hard bricked on its own (i never rooted it or anything), it shows up as QHSUSBDLOAD or something in the device manager in windows 8.1
i found this link to revive my phone: unlimited.io/qhsusbdload.htm
I am a total noob and i know nothing about rooting or flashing roms or anything for that matter (i just think my phone is hard bricked because someone told me if it comes up as QHSUSBDLOAD in the dev manager, it means it is hard bricked). There is no response if i hold the power button, or the power and volume buttons under a bright light or not under a bright light, i tried charging it continuously for 5 days, nothing happened, LED is not flashing. Only when i connect it to windows via a usb cable, it recognised it as an unknown device, when i updated the driver, it showed QHSUSBDLOAD.
This link (same as above): unlimited.io/qhsusbdload.htm worked for many people. i'm a noob so can anyone please elaborate and give me a full detailed process on how to go about it. Again, i never ever rooted my phone.

And its out of the warranty period, and i dont really know what a jtag box is, but i heard it involves opening up your phone, and i really dont wanna do that. But, if theres a method of using jtag via a usb cable and reviving my phone without opening it up, then plz tell me that too.

otherwise, just elaborate on this (same link-) (unlimited.io/qhsusbdload.htm) and explain it to me like u would to a noob.

THANK YOU!!!!
Any help is appreciated.

Hi
Can anybody please tell me how to block voip calls like whatsapp call, skype viber etc.
Is there any app or any software through which it can be done on phone or at router level.

Thanks

xda-developers

I know I need to press some button combinations but searching the net turned up nothing.

Can you please help? thanks!

ps. the ROM I'm using now doesn't have reboot to recovery option like that available in CM.

Thread title pretty much sums it up.

Glass always seemed cool to me and I'm willing to try it now, but I'm curious what you guys actually use it for. Do you use it everyday? Does it do something better and more efficiently than your smartphone does?

I probably wouldn't wear it out in public but I would use it at home, driving, skiing, flying, in the lab, stuff like that. Still unsure if it has any good use though.

This is strictly for showing off what you have done with your N910P while using the 5.0.1 Alliance ROM!!! This is not the actual development or download thread for the ROM. That is located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note...-huge-t3066673 Please post screenshots of your Alliance ROM tweaks on the N910P. Also, to be helpful to others, tell if you have used other themes in your modifications. No bashing of others for what they have done. Be tasteful with your post cause keep in mind that their are some amazing young minds that are also on this site. I guess that's about it. Have fun & be proud.

I'm trying to install this custom kernel -https://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?23541-KERNEL-KaliNethunterLollipopKernel-
On my nexus 7 (2013) with Clockwork mod
I choose the option to "install update from zip file" (after I put the zip on my device , of course)
It displays the following
installing/sdcard/0/Element1X-N5-Nethunter-ElementalX-2.00.zip
Finding update package...
opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.

Can someone give any clues as to why this may be happening, and how to fix it, or maybe just what I am doing wrong?
I've been messing around with this for hours with no success, I would be thankful for any information regarding this error.

Getting Out
So I am gonna explain how to get out of it first.
1.) Hold Down Power Button
2.) Plug in the micro-usb to the computer well holding down the power button.
Done!
Getting In
This is how you get into download mode.
1.) Push the volume up and down at the same time. Do not stop until it boots into download mode.
2.) Put the micro usb into the device and you should see text saying something to the effect of entering download mode.
3.) Once you are in download mode you can stop holding unto the volume up and down keys.
Done!
Another way of getting into download mode via terminal.
REQUIREMENTS: ADB NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED FOR THIS METHOD TO WORK.
adb reboot download
What you can do with download mode
Download mode can be used to fix your device if there is an issue. An example would be not being able to boot up the OS. That can be fixed in Download mode by putting the stock OS back unto the device.
Download mode can fix MOST bricks unless it is a hard brick where the file known as "laf" has been deleted. In that case download mode won't help you.
Extra Notes
I am not responsible if you brick your system. Please use download mode and any other android feature or modification with caution.

LG TRIBUTE m#LGLS660 - VM
AV 4.4.2
KV 3.4.0+
BUILD # KOT49I.LS660ZV5

I did the 1 click root fix via http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g...lipop-t3056951

Generally it worked fine , the problem is that i did this with the explicit goal of only fixing the SD writing and storage issues
the phone only has roughly 2 gigs and 80% kitkat soaks up and not that im like app happy or anything but it makes app installation even weaker than an older cheaper phone thus killing a lot of the reason to have this fairly nice phone except for the camera which is fundamentally a non-prime reason to have this phone just a bonus.
So i installed the NextApp SDfix from the app store and applied its fix , and nothing especially changed , i also then installed link2SD
for further memory management. I can see a lot of info and i see how the system basically has the primary system memory with a legacy/emulated storage space as 2 seperate but basically same partition.
Then it recognizes as a entirely seperate ext memory the sd card , now since having tweaked with both these apps and everything generally running fine , i've moved this and that and dont have barely the basics installed i.e instagram/twitter/ ect ,... the system has about on the system drive some 300mb free obviously not a lot space in this age it is being very selective of what it will install and download from the app store , i was luckily able to reinstall CLEANMASTER after uninstalling it but i can't reinstall FACEBOOK
or download and install next to anything else that i've tried i keep getting the same error , the SD card is nearly entirely free with plenty of space soooooo
long story , made longer How can i adjust this , How can i maybe fool the o/s to think the SD card is the primary partition or something similar can i undo this? (not the root i know i can undo the root and or just start fresh from a hardreset or something
Any Input is appreciated , i am as the name so obviously suggests a new rooter not very experienced in android sw , though i was able to tweak around with iphone3s and jailbreak them which admittedly was rather fun.
Im only wanting this just so i stop getting that blasted insufficient storage error blasted google

this is technically a repost as i did post this in that said thread above but i wasnt sure if it was the right place for the inquiry.
