[Q] Saying goodbye to Motorola. Any device recommendations? topic

I used to have a droid Maxx HD from 2 years ago. That phone is the one where I learned everything I know about rooting and I optimized it just to my liking.
I always take great care of my electronics but one day I accidentally dropped it when it was out of it's case and it landed face down on the edge of a metal table leg.
Knowing my luck it dropped directly on the side with the digitizer so it completely destroyed that along with some other internal stuff rendering it inoperable.

Went to verizon and was told the Droid Maxx was the most similar phone to my beloved HD and really the only option so I went for it only to find they had locked down the bootloader with the vivacity the likes of which I have never seen.
I waited for months and even tried out some stuff on my own but when push comes to shove this thing is really tightened down like a server in the pentagon would be.

It is because of this that I must say goodbye to Motorola and their susceptibility to Verizon's toxic bootloader locking policy. I have been a customer of Motorola's for many years now, and mainly due to their well built and good looking products. However, the sheer amount of useless bloatware that Verizon shoves into this phone and its frustratingly uncustomizable features due to a lack of root render it almost unbearable for me to use.

I am now looking for another company to purchase a phone through and have put heavy consideration into the Nexus 6. Any thoughts on the situation? Any phone recommendations for somebody who used to enjoy Motorola style devices?

Any help appreciated.
